John Jairo Perdomo

John Jairo Perdomo Restrepo has a Master’s degree in Creation and Stage Direction from the Universidad del Valle, a degree in Performing Arts from the Universidad del Valle and a degree in Basic Education with an emphasis on Artistic Education from the University of Santander. He is the founder of the Corporación Casa Naranja where he has offered a free theatrical program since 1996 for the inhabitants of the eastern part of the city of Cali in commune 13 in the Aguablanca district. He also leads an arts training process called “ARTE AL BARRIO” for the generation of new cultivators and audiences of the arts. John Jairo has directed award-winning community living culture projects in Cali and Valle del Cauca. Some of them include: Second place for the “Por una ciudad mejor” award for innovation in social intervention with the “Teatro al Barrio” project (2013) of the Alvaralice Foundation, “Mejor proyecto de ciudad 2014” of the Aflora Bolívar Davivienda Foundation, recognition to the merit of the Mayor’s Office of Cali through its Secretary of Culture for the invaluable, social, artistic and cultural work for Cali (2015), exaltation of the Government of Valle Del Cauca through the Secretary of Culture for the invaluable social work, artistic and cultural from the eastern part of Cali (2015, 2019). He has been General Director of the Cali International Theater Festival 2017 (FITCALI 2017), Artistic Director of the Cali Viejo Carnival Parade 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, Conceptual Advisor and Artistic Director of the Salsódromo 2017, 2018, and 2019, founder and participant of the Festival of Live Street Theater, and member of the Colombian Network of Theater in Community and the National Network of Theatrical Comparsa. His works stand out for collecting the feelings of the community and bringing to life the song that encourages his doing “Everything that through my actions becomes myself lives, heals and works in others.”
