Bambalinas:

A Digital Memory of Contemporary Street Theatre in Latin America.

Alexander Soto

Actor and co-founder of the Colectivo Teatral Luz de Luna. His acting training began at an early age, inspired by the artistic activities in which he participated in at his elementary school and later took part in at his high school. The latter was decisive, since it pushed him towards pursuing acting more seriously and beginning formal training. Years later, he was part of training methods in groups such as the Teatro Taller de Colombia, the Teatro la Candelaria, and the Tecal, groups that strengthened the reason why he wanted to do theater. His voice and that of his companions would become a cry of rebellion in the midst of so much injustice. Theater became a means to reach a larger public and this rebellion crystallized with works such as ¿Dónde está?, Aterra, Ventitas, and Ventarrones, among others. These theatrical pieces marked many audiences of different generations. Alexander’s musical training is self-taught, supported by music workshops taken both inside and outside of Luz de Luna. He was in charge of music within the group and his specialty is percussion. He currently has a Bachelor of Arts. He was part of the entire Luz de Luna repertoire. As a producer, he coordinated the “comparas” that took place in the collective. In 2010, he premiered the monologue “El Bufón”, directed by Rubén Darío Herrera. He is currently linked to the training processes with the District Institute of the Arts IDARTES. He started out as a Venue Manager and is now a Theater Training Artist. In 2021, he directed 4 productions, two of street theater “La profecía” and “De-género” and two of radio theater “La locución en el fin del Cosmos” and “El emporio” with young men and women from various locations in Bogotá.
